So What is plb.brainbuild.com?
We're glad you asked!

plb.brainbuild.com is a forum/portal site designed to spread the word about the PL/B programming language, and to give software developers a place to get in-depth information and training that isn't found anywhere else. Within the pages of plb.brainbuild.com, you'll find source code, tutorials, sample programs, tricks, tools, and articles to help you get the most out of the PL/B programming language.

Starting in September 2006, we will also be adding video tutorials to the plb.brainbuild.com library. These video tutorials will be of various lengths, some 5 minutes long, others as long as 20 minutes. They will require a broadband Internet connection (or a lot of patience), but they will be worth the wait!

Keep checking back periodically for more information, or better yet, register and be notified by email of important plb.brainbuild.com updates.

Why the New Website?
Well, the PL/B Brainbuild™ concept was started a couple of years ago to advance the PL/B language and provide tools to help us in the PL/B and Databus communities share tips, tricks, and ideas. The core concept hasn’t changed, but the technology we can use to deliver content has. Now, streaming media is becoming the de facto standard for online training and presentation. Bandwidth is king.

So, I guess now the cat is out of the bag. We are looking to create some online multimedia tools for training and presentation. Some of these multimedia presentations may be quite long (greater than 15 minutes), and we just wouldn’t be able to support the bandwidth and disk space requirements with our old infrastructure.

So, we made a decision to move the web site to a host with a bigger backbone, more staff, and a 24x7x365 support plan. But, the drawback is that we couldn’t find any reasonably priced plans from hosts that were willing to support our .NET-based web site. (Wonder what that says about the .NET platform as a whole?!) So, we went the open-source route, which means we had to copy the existing content into a new database and front-end management tool.

So, this is the end result. We hope you’ll like it, and appreciate some of the new features we’ll be adding in the coming months.

A nice feature that Microsoft has made available in Windows 2000, XP, and 2003 is the addition of the transparent (more properly, semi-transparent) window.
